Beginner's Guide.
Starting out can be daunting, but we've got your back. Here's everything you need to know about your first session.
1 Your First Session
We run dedicated social sessions every Tuesday evening. These are the best place to start. Just turn up at the wall (check our calendar for the location) and look for the committee members in the club stash!
We'll help you get registered with the wall, hire some shoes, and introduce you to some friendly faces. You don't need to be fit or strong—climbing is for everyone.
2 What to Wear & Bring
Wear
- Stretchy gym trousers or leggings
- A breathable t-shirt
- Socks (if you're hiring shoes)
- A warm layer for when you're resting
Bring
- A reusable water bottle
- Your student ID
- A positive attitude!
3 Bouldering Etiquette
-
Don't stand on the mats
Only walk onto the crash mats when you are about to climb or helping a climber. Standing on them is a safety hazard for those falling.
-
Look up and around
Before starting a climb, make sure nobody is already on a route that crosses yours. Give other climbers plenty of space.
-
Brush your holds
If you use a lot of chalk, give the holds a quick brush after your session to keep the friction good for the next person.
